The former site of the famous "Electric Building", which was the tallest building in Lockport at the time.  A hydrauclic Race from the Canal passed through the seventh story of this lofty old stone building.  The Electric Building was one of America's most unique industrial structures and a tribute to the ingenuity of its builders.  You are standing on what was the six story of the Electric Building.

Note the huge pipe which, in a way, resembles a railroad engine projecting out into the "natural basin" of the canal.  This is the canal discharge conduit.  On occasion, water shoots high into the air from this device in the manner of a geyser.

This is how the canal discharge conduit looks today.
