Pre - Incident Planning

The essential components of a pre-incident survey include:

  1. Life hazard - evacuation plan
  2. Access points; entrance, egress, driveway, force entry
  3. Ventilation points - skylights, roof access, need to cut
  4. Built in fire protection - location, sprinkler, FDC
  5. Water supply - location limitations
  6. Structural weakness - include horizontal/vertical opening, lack of fire stops, components leading to possible early collapse
  7. Structural strong points - fire walls, parapets
  8. Estimate of fire flow and determination of actual available flow
  9. Applicable maps
  10. Provision for prompt supply of needs - cooperation among agencies, mutual aid/assistance
