Fire Flow Requirements

Exposures:

If adjacent structues are exposed to fire from original fire building - add 25% to flow for each.

• 0-30 ft. usually an exposure
• 30-100 ft. may be exposure
• 100 ft or more, not an exposure

Should the exposure become involved with fire - recalculate.

High rise buildings - if floors are threatened by possible extension, they should be considered as exposure (25%) for up to 4 floors.

Example:

One story structure fully involved with two exposures.

• 50 X 30 / 3 X 1 floor = 500 gpm
• Exposure: 500 gpm X (25% X 2) = 250 gpm
• Total fire Flow Required = 750 gpm
