In 1997, our EWO effort on media handling focuses on developing 2-D analytical models in ABAQUS for nip mechanics between 2 rollers in contact. We also plan to distribute these tools and train a group of engineers in product development on the use of these tools. Some of the models we plan to develop over a period of 2-3 years are as follows:
- Model for contact between a roller on a flat surface
- Model for two deformable rollers in contact
- Model for motion of paper between a deformable roller and a flat surface
- Model for motion of paper between two deformable rollers
- Model for motion of paper between deformable rollers with electrostatics
- Extend the above Static models to Dynamic models
Our goal is to provide tools on the Kodak INTRANET that will create ABAQUS input file and users would be allowed to run ABAQUS remotely over the net.
Our effort is also focused on reviewing and updating the Paper Handling Guidelines Handbook. We will provide that information over the INTRANET along with spreadsheet-like tools for making necessary design calculations.
